Coal Action Network (UK)
Coal Action Network (CAN) works for an end to coal use in power generation and steel production; coal extraction and coal imports in the UK, and for justice for communities affected by the UK's current and historical coal consumption and mining. CAN does so by working in solidarity with communities on the front-lines of coal-extraction in the UK and in countries where coal is mined for consumption here. CAN seeks to amplify and strengthen the networks and capacity of front-line communities against extractivism and environmental racism, towards direct democracy and for just transition. Specifically in Wales CAN campaigns against the proposed Extension of Aberpergwm colliery, and historically against Aberthaw power station.
“Governmental action on climate change is urgently needed to ensure that the impacts already felt by the most affected people and areas do not worsen. By working together we can force governments to recognise their role in the damage and rectify the harm. ”
