Sam Ward (he/him), Head of Climate Cymru

Sam’s early career was orientated around the outdoors, nature and people, when he managed companies that specialised in coaching and getting people out into nature. He coached the British national team to over 30 medals at international competitions, competing himself at the international level for a number of years in his chosen discipline of whitewater kayaking. Sam has always been involved in social enterprises, environmental initiatives, charities, and environmental advocacy campaigns. He worked as a sustainability consultant, and programme manager for environmental and conservation projects, and cofounded Biodiversity Alliance, in Uganda working on community led solutions to the biodiversity crisis. Sam now spends all his working hours running Climate Cymru!

Vanessa Fada (she/her), Volunteer Coordinator

Vanessa is an experienced community facilitator, whose other roles include Sub Sahara Advisory Panel’s Good Ancestor Producer and a voluntary role at North Wales Africa Society community projects and North Wales regional equality networks. Vanessa helped to develop the vision and each layer of the Welsh Government’s Wales Anti-Racist Action Plan of the ‘People Like Us’ project and now leads Climate Cymru’s first volunteer programme.

David Kilner (he/him), Campaigner

David is an environmental educator, ecologist, community & climate activist with experience in landscape scale regeneration of Wales’ sand dune system. Currently developing Wales’ largest species recovery project – Natur am Byth! 10 years experience of community engagement & delivery work on health, conservation and growing projects.

Hannah Tottle (they/them), Communications Lead

Hannah is a fluent Welsh speaker and studied film/documentary at USW. Hannah prefers to instill a documentary feel across their work, using their camera, voice and platform to amplify and highlight experiences of those the media (and society in general). Community, identity, and capturing the joy in the intersect is at the heart of Hannah’s work, depolying their full range of skills at Climate Cymru, including photography, videography, research, graphics and bilinual communications!

Michaela Rohmann (she/her), YCA and Global Climate Justice Coordinator

Michi first joined WCIA in 2014 and has since worked in a number of roles across a portfolio of EU-funded programmes, including Erasmus+ and predecessor youth exchange schemes. At WCIA Michaela has been managing European Solidarity Corps projects, Taith funded projects and international exchanges. Michaela has participated in projects worldwide, including in Germany, France, South Africa, Tanzania, England and Wales. From 2024, Michi has taken on several roles including Taith Champions Coordinator, supporting Youth Organisations across Wales to engage with Taith, Wales’ international learning exchange programme, Youth Climate Ambassador programme coordinator and Climate Cymru’s Global Justice group.

Paul Graham (he/him), Volunteer

Paul began volunteering with Climate Cymru in 2021 and has stayed with us ever since, often leading on internal development and strategy as well as reaching out to new and potential partners. More recently he became a Climate Fresk facilitator and can often be found in the great outdoors leading Deep Time Walks.

Clare James (she/her), Network Coordinator

Clare oversees Climate Cymru’s network, including partners, volunteering and ambassadors, with a focus on diversification of the movement. Committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the environmental sector, she aims to combat poverty and protect the planet. As an accredited participatory action research practitioner, Clare has led collaborative projects with grassroots organisations, NGOs, corporations, and academic institutions. She worked for over 15 years in the housing and homelessness sector and later on, at Techniquest.
