Anita Henman Cartwright (she/her), Head of Funding Innovation
Anita is a seasoned social entrepreneur and strategist, passionate about a just transition to a wellbeing economy in Wales. With a background in management consulting, she has developed foundational economy and community projects, successfully leading bids from grass-roots initiatives to regional £multimillion programmes. Her diverse experience includes mentoring for Social Business Wales, serving as a Powys County Councillor, and designing an innovative digital platform for community-led skills sharing. Anita is pursuing an ALM (Masters) in Sustainability from Harvard and holds a PGCert in Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Ecosystems.
Benjamin Rwizibuka (he/him), Ethnic Minority Group Coordinator
Benjamin is originally from Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Crop Production. He is currently pursuing a masters’ degree in Agroforestry and Food Security at Bangor University (2025). Benjamin has professional experience with international research institutes and private companies, including the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and RISEF SARL, in roles such as capacity building officer, research assistant, and end-line evaluation supervisor. Passionate about sustainable agriculture and food security, he volunteers with Climate Cymru, where he serves on the Advisory Group and leads as the Coordinator for Climate Cymru Ethnic Minorities. Benjamin is dedicated to amplifying diverse voices and driving collective action for environmental sustainability.
Bethan Sayed (she/her), Head of Politics and Advocacy
Bethan is part of the politics and advocacy team and has previously worked with Climate Cymru on the Warm This Winter campaign. She is a former Senedd Member for South Wales West, and was the youngest woman elected to the Senedd. She is a proud advocate for women’s rights and community engagement in politics, and campaigns on environmental justice. She chaired Wales against Open casting while in the Senedd, and mobilised communities to fight for restoration. She has carried out freelance political influencing work with organisations such as Oxfam Cymru, and has led workshops across Wales on how the Senedd operates. Bethan is a qualified swimming teacher, and in her spare time, she enjoys the gym, travelling, and spending time with her son at soft plays and farms!
Clare James (she/her), Network Coordinator
Clare oversees Climate Cymru’s network, including partners, volunteering and ambassadors, with a focus on diversification of the movement. Committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the environmental sector, she aims to combat poverty and protect the planet. As an accredited participatory action research practitioner, Clare has led collaborative projects with grassroots organisations, NGOs, corporations, and academic institutions. She worked for over 15 years in the housing and homelessness sector and later on, at Techniquest.
Joseph Kidd (he/him), Head of Renewable Energy
Joseph is an energy sector specialist with over 20 years’ experience working across renewable energy development, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement in Wales and the UK. Throughout his career he has been passionate about ensuring that the transition to renewable energy delivers long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits for communities. He has worked across a wide range of renewable technologies including offshore and onshore wind, marine energy, and emerging hydrogen systems. Alongside his role with Climate Cymru, Joseph works with Community Energy Wales, supporting business development activities that promote community-owned renewable energy and help strengthen the role of communities in Wales’s energy transition.
Kathryn Warren (she/her), Operations and Programmes Coordinator
Kathryn has enjoyed a successful 20 year career across renewable energy, waste and resources management and sustainability. She was a senior leader at a global energy and environmental consultancy, responsible for the strategic leadership, operational and financial management, team leadership of a large team of engineers and consultants. Kathryn now has a portfolio career which includes part time, non-executive and voluntary roles – all focussed on leveraging her expertise to support the environmental, economic and social wellbeing of communities in Wales. In her spare time Kathryn enjoys parkrun, book clubs, and exploring the outdoors with her family.
Paul Graham (he/him), Assistant Network Coordinator
Paul began volunteering with Climate Cymru in 2021 and has stayed with us ever since, often leading on internal development and strategy as well as reaching out to new and potential partners. More recently he became a Climate Fresk facilitator and can often be found in the great outdoors leading Deep Time Walks.
Sali Moses Nichols (she/they), Volunteer and Schools Coordinator / Assistant and Translator
Sali is a fluent Welsh speaker and passionate linguist, proficient in six languages. Her studies and experiences have taken her across Europe and, most recently, to the Yucatán, Mexico, where she taught English. With a deep appreciation for the connection between language, culture, and identity, she is committed to amplifying voices across Wales and beyond. She has done extensive research on the link between climate change and language loss among Indigenous communities, advocating for urgent environmental justice. Combining her multilingual skills with a global perspective, she strives to foster inclusivity and drive meaningful change.
Sam Ward (he/him), Head of Climate Cymru
Sam’s early career was orientated around the outdoors, nature and people, when he managed companies that specialised in coaching and getting people out into nature. He coached the British national team to over 30 medals at international competitions, competing himself at the international level for a number of years in his chosen discipline of whitewater kayaking. Sam has always been involved in social enterprises, environmental initiatives, charities, and environmental advocacy campaigns. He worked as a sustainability consultant, and programme manager for environmental and conservation projects, and cofounded Biodiversity Alliance, in Uganda working on community led solutions to the biodiversity crisis. Sam now spends all his working hours running Climate Cymru!
Stanley Townsend (he/him), Head of Policy and Advocacy
Stan is a climate policy expert, with experience in advising political leaders in Wales and internationally. He has worked across a number of policy areas for UK Government, such as the circular economy, net zero strategy, green finance, and was also a negotiator to the United Nations climate process where he represented the UK at two COPs. He returned to Wales to take up a role as Secretary for the Wales Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group, requested by the Welsh Labour Government and Plaid Cymru to explore ambitious, just pathways for a resilient and prosperous Wales. Beyond advising political leaders, Stan’s passion is building civic agency within the Welsh public to respond to societal challenges such as climate change, and is highly interested in new forms of democracy. If he’s not working, you will mostly likely find him riding his bike in the South Wales valleys or surfing in the Gower.
