Why emailing your local politician makes change happen
We need Members of the Senedd (MSs) across Wales to commit to tackling the climate, energy, and cost-of-living crisis. You can make this happen.
Last winter, almost 200 people in Wales died from living in cold, damp houses. In Spring, energy companies announced billions in profits. This brutal inequality is stark and heart wrenching — especially as it doesn’t have to be this way.
The escalating challenges we face over energy supply, climate change, and the cost-of-living all share the same root causes, but they also share the same solutions — like mass insulation of Welsh homes and investment in low-cost, clean, renewable energy. These solutions that can be delivered to the people of Wales today.
Our team at Climate Cymru is running the Warm This Winter Wales campaign, as part of the wider UK movement to demand that politicians commit to tackling the energy, climate, and cost-of-living crisis.
Nearly 4,000 of you signed our petition calling on the Welsh Government to take action and the campaign is supported by over 300 diverse organisations in Wales — from charities and community groups, to businesses and universities.
Now, we need the power of your voice again. It’s critical that MSs pledge to support the campaign and use their influence in the Senedd to demand that the Welsh Government takes action.
How your voice can drive change
It’s quick and easy for you to email your MSs — all you need to do is get in touch with us and tell us your postcode, then we’ll email you back with your MSs’ contact details and a template email for you to send.
This will take you just a few minutes, but it will have a huge difference to the people in our communities across Wales who are struggling to make ends meet.
What have we already achieved together?
Thanks to your support and action, the Climate Cymru movement has:
- Taken a petition of nearly 4,000 people and support of over 300 organisations across Wales and delivered it to the Welsh Government.
- Forced the Senedd to launch an inquiry into the prepayment meter scandal, thanks to the hundreds of you that signed the petition.
- Closed down the largest opencast coal mine in the UK, Ffos-y-Fran in Merthyr, thanks to widespread local support and action.
- Brought together a diversity of organisations — unions, charities, industries — to find solutions to how Wales can lower its emissions.
- Shared the key points from the net zero discussion (mentioned above) with the Welsh Government to inform and influence decision makers.
We achieved all this — and more — thanks to you. Now, we need politicians to take action and pledge their support. Please, take a few minutes to email your local MSs today.
Politicians urgently need to take action now, before their summer break, so that by September there’s a clear plan to protect people in Wales from the impacts of the energy, climate, and cost-of-living crisis.
Last week, it was announced that this winter gas prices are estimated ‘to almost treble’ due to the war in Ukraine and Russia’s control over our energy supply. This is why we need homegrown renewables more than ever — not only for the health of the planet and ourselves, but it will also unleash Wales’ potential for clean, sustainable energy and free us from being reliant on volatile, expensive gas.
Together, we have successfully forced politicians to act. Let’s do it again, before it’s too late.
These are the three quick and easy steps:
- Email us at helo@climate.cymru and tell us your postcode.
- We’ll email you back with your MSs’ contact details and template email
- Send the email to your MSs. Mission achieved!
Thank you for making positive change happen for Wales and the world.
