Royal College of Psychiatrists Wales
The Royal College of Psychiatrists Wales is the professional medical body responsible for supporting psychiatrists throughout their careers. We work to secure the best outcomes for people with mental illness and learning difficulties by promoting excellent mental health services, training outstanding psychiatrists, promoting quality and research, setting standards and being the voice of psychiatry.
“There is increasing evidence of both direct and indirect impacts on mental health from the climate and ecological emergency. Increasing rates of climate-related hazards are exacerbating existing mental health problems and leading to psychological distress. As healthcare professionals, part of our response must involve advocating for our patient groups. We therefore need to champion a model of mental healthcare that is protective and preventative rather than reactive. Our role in joining other health professionals and groups to demand action on the climate and ecological emergency is non-negotiable. ”
