Why do you care about the climate?

I’m worried about the losses to people and wildlife that we’re seeing from climate change. It’s deeply saddening to know that we’ve lost more than half our wildlife since 1975, and I’m worried to see the Earth become less inhabitable for people too and the issues this will create. I’m also excited about the potential to create a new society that is both fair and sustainable, and playing a part in what that might look like.

What action do you want to see from our leaders?

I want to see leaders allowing citizens to lead by setting up citizen’s assemblies with real power. I’m excited for the Universal Basic Income trial in Wales as it will allow more people to play a role in their communities and campaign about issues like the climate crisis. I also would like to see more support for rewilding the land and allowing nature to regenerate in areas that aren’t profitable for farming or in national parks, rather than grazing sheep on them.

What gives you hope for the future?

I’m hopeful because of all the creative people and exciting projects that are underway – like this one! Humans are endlessly adaptive and more and more we’re talking about future generations and what it means to be a good ancestor. I hope that in this generation we fulfil this new promise and become good ancestors, using our knowledge and the time we have left to stop the climate crisis and create a fairer society.
