Volunteer opportunities at Climate Cymru
Delivering Climate Action Link in Schools
We’ve recently launched our Climate Action Link (CAL) schools programme, which is now the core of our volunteer work. This is your chance to inspire the next generation and show that climate action can be positive and practical.
As a CAL volunteer, you can:
- Lead assemblies and workshops in schools across Wales
- Run interactive activities that show pupils how they can make a difference
- Signpost older pupils to the Youth Climate Ambassadors network
- Share your own story to motivate and inspire
- Help schools connect with Climate Cymru campaigns and become Climate Cymru Schools
- Support our monthly schools newsletter with tips, guides, and highlights
- Use our Imagine Action resources and ready-to-go presentations
No teaching background needed — we provide resources and support.
Events and Community Action
Our volunteers are often found at festivals, fairs, and national campaigns, bringing climate action into communities across Wales. From the Great Big Green Week to local events, volunteers help us connect with thousands of people every year.
You may choose to:
- Support Climate Cymru at major events, festivals, and community gatherings
- Get involved in local projects such as community gardens and changemaker activities
- Help deliver national campaigns like the Great Big Green Week by organising events or reaching out to local communities
Skills, Training & Development
Volunteering with us is also about your personal growth. We’ll support you with training, resources, and opportunities to build transferable skills you can take into work, study, or everyday life.
You can develop skills in:
- Public speaking and facilitation
- Social media and communications
- Teamwork and networking
- Climate knowledge and advocacy
- Event organisation
Supporting the Wider Team
Beyond schools and events, volunteers also play a huge part in helping Climate Cymru stay connected and creative. Depending on your interests, you might:
- Write blogs or contribute to social media
- Help build connections with schools, local groups, and our 400+ partner organisations
- Offer insights into our campaigns
- Provide bilingual support in Welsh and English, where possible
Youth Climate Ambassadors
The Youth Climate Ambassadors (YCA) for Wales is a youth-led programme for people under 25 who want to amplify their voices on climate change. As part of Climate Cymru’s wider work, the YCA give young people the chance to take part in campaigns, represent their peers, and connect with decision-makers. As a Youth Climate Ambassador, you can:
- Represent young people’s perspectives at events and in campaigns
- Lead talks, workshops, or creative projects in schools and communities
- Work with other ambassadors to shape youth-focused initiatives
- Contribute to campaigns such as petitions, exhibitions, or national events
If you’re between 14 – 25 and want to get involved, contact Michaela at michaela@climate.cymru

Volunteer Voices
Hebron’s Green Tour Film – Great Big Green Week Tour – 2024
After joining the Great Big Green Week Green Tour, Hebron was inspired to create a powerful short film. She captured people’s hopes for Wales in 2050, a future shaped by bold, meaningful action on climate change. Along the way, she interviewed communities across Wales, weaving together a tapestry of voices filled with resilience, creativity, and optimism. Her film shows that change is already happening, and that together we can imagine and build a brighter future.
Tammie’s Great Big Green Week Video – Tammie Esslemont Climate Cymru Volunteer
For Tammie, volunteering during Great Big Green Week was a life-changing experience. She decided to make a short video to capture the people she met, the connections she made, and the sense of hope she found in being part of the movement. Her story is a reminder that volunteering isn’t just about giving your time, it’s also about what you gain: new friendships, new perspectives, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Ellie:
‘I’ve met some amazing people at Climate Cymru and I can fit volunteering around my other commitments’
