Mary Gillie is a British engineer and physicist. She has moved from place to place but now is lucky enough to live on the edge of Snowdonia. She is passionate about making technology work for the planet and for people. She spends much of her time working behind the scenes to try to make the the electricity industry greener but also support the vulnerable. She was brought up to care about the environment, her mother walked the talk. In her spare time she loves running in the hills or walking in woods. She loves gardening but it makes her see how much our weather is now changing.View all ambassadors
In your view, what do our leaders here in Wales, the UK and around the world need to do to solve climate change?
Preventing climate change has to be the key priority in every decision made in every department at every layer of government. This will actually help a lot of other priorities too! Alongside this, we have to make it seem possible and change mindsets and habits.
Why have you become a Climate Cymru ambassador?
I want to share what I have learnt in my career and my love for the environment, share the vision of how we could have such a better place for everyone by tackling climate change
As a nation, what do you feel we need to do to truly influence change?
I would like to see Wales setting the example, showing how preventing climate change can be embedded in every decision and working with and sharing experiences with the regions of England and Scotland particularly.
What makes you optimistic for the future with regards to climate change?
That people keep on trying.
